SENSES OF THE SEASONS
“Trees are important symbols in many cultures, a revered image, used in myths and legends, settings for countless magical stories…..”
Lesley Richmond is inspired by the tranquil and timeless elegance of trees. To create her intricate textiles, Richmond begins by photographing trees and leaves, focusing on their structural forms. The images are then printed on silk, cotton and Kozo paper which is layered and manipulated to create a three dimensional surface. Selected background areas are then eliminated leaving the structural images of trees and leaves as the dominant feature. Finally, the surfaces are manipulated, dyed and painted with patinas and pigments.
