These hand-thrown porcelain vessels by Anima Roos are delicate, functional and surprising. Outside there are fluently painted silhouettes on the translucent form. Looking over the lip of one you’re greeted with the hint of of a bright design that asks you to look deeper, where you’ll find a Koi fish swimming inside.

Anima Roos’ porcelain vessels are each unique, thrown on a wheel and hand painted with leafy foliage in deeply pigmented blacks and blues. The functional bowls are further adorned with screen-printed koi fish transfers.

STATEMENT

During the making, the game between light and dark, movement and rest, open-/closeness, is very important. Playing with traditional forms and actual techniques, I am searching for a balance. The spectator adds a concrete story to it. Lines, forms and ideas, preferably in movement… it all remains a tightrope walk. The interaction between what I intend to make, and what others see in it is seldom a contradiction, usually an enrichment.
