“I have never used the word decorative as a pejorative but rather celebrate the objects historically placed under that category. In this body of work thrown, then folded utilitarian porcelain objects are embellished with complex surfaces. The undulating forms are ergonomic and provide multiple ways to securely grip each work. Handles on the forms echo the arches and angles in the forms and provide visual continuity and a sensory experience for the hand.
The multiple surfaces applied to the forms add to visual and tactile experience. The decoration supports the form describing it in differently in each piece. Surfaces range from dry to matte to glossy and provide a sensory experience for the eye and hand. These works are full realized when in use and are meant to provide a sublime experience in the domestic setting. As a friend once said, “I’m used to feeling your drawing.” This expanded experience is what I strive to provide to the user/viewer.”
