The New Textiles: Transformed
October 3, 2015 – November 7, 2015
"Yunnan Province is home to 25 of China's 55 officially recognized minority groups. In Southern Yanan, the Dai people refer to their land as 'bazi,' meaning tranquil and beautiful. Their homes are in a lush, subtropical area near river basins with exceptionally fertile soil. One of the least-known culinary treasures in China, their food is similar to Thai food in that it combines sour, spicy, salty and sweet flavors but with its own distinctive style."
Based on an old rhyme:<br>"The leaves are green, the nuts are brown,<br> They hang so high they won’t come down,<br> Leave them alone till frosty weather,<br> Then they will all come down together."

A group invitational, The New Textiles: Transformed will include works showcasing a variety of unique techniques and unlikely materials that mirror the look of textiles and explore the definition of what a textile truly is. This exhibition will transform the possibilities of textile art through textural forms and media. Textiles can spring from unlikely sources including paper, glass, metal, silicone and plastics. The New Textiles celebrates the bold sculptural forms of baskets, the graphic imagery of tapestries and all surfaces that are embellished, both narrative and abstract.
Check back soon for participating artists, images of included work and more details.
