"Nylon Botanicus II is a logical development and extension from Nylon Botanicus I, my collection from 2006.
The Glass Flower Collection at the Harvard museum of natural History in Boston USA was a great inspiration for me to start these collections, the scientific botanical models revealing the structure of plants and were executed by expert craftsmen in coloured glass.
The particular developments through the two collections have been exciting for me to do, and I feel my work has moved forward and progressing. In research I have spent more time directly involved with the structure of plants by dissecting and analysing for myself.
At the same time as working on this collection I was invited to produce work for Seeing Dragons in the Clouds project by The Harley Gallery, Worksop. My research extended even further into the natural world which included the relationship between insects and plants and drawing attention to ones imagination. Some of the materials in nature I found so robust and beautifully structured that I incorporated them within my work.
One of the qualities that has come out of my research which is not immediately evident is the geometry drawn from my plant studies which sometimes is quite complex. The more I delve into the wonders of nature the more exciting discoveries I make, and am spurred on to express my interpretations of them."
