The lessons I have learned from traditional masters are not only the technique, but also the process. Knowing when to gather, how to prepare and which materials I can use with the various techniques. This knowledge has increased my ability to work with and explore alternative materials. I have expanded my work with alternative materials such as citrus peels, sturgeon skin, black bamboo in combination with silver dollar seed pods, agave leaves and lotus pod tops by creating more sculptural and figurative pieces. I am also exploring graphic designs that I ?puzzle? together. Working with materials that are not often used or associated with basketry gives me unlimited opportunities for innovation. I continue to seek new materials and techniques. My pieces are often double walled. The interior walls of my pieces are as important to me as the exterior. I continue to enjoy making baskets that hold an element of surprise. Images |
